The charitable purpose of LEDAHF is to further economic development and to create opportunities for safe and affordable housing for citizens of low and moderate income, using both public and private financing and investment programs to achieve this goal. Further, LEDAHF strives to assist in relieving the burden of government by attracting private sector commitment to public purpose projects.
LEDAHF was formed as the Loudoun County (VA) Economic Development and Affordable Housing Foundation to meet a specific need of affordable housing in a market (Washington, DC) where real estate pricing made service sector housing totally unaffordable. Founded by a for-profit developer and a former public policy advocate and public homebuilder, LEDAHF quickly became influential in building models and using processes that motivated land developers and builders to accommodate affordable housing within master planned communities.
LEDAHF has now expanded outside Loudoun County, Virginia, and is working all over Virginia and the Carolinas.
